About Yu Hai

​

          Yu Hai SHEN is a Chinese born in Shanghai (China). He then moved to France and lived there for 19 years. He started to draw at a young age and drew characters from Dragon Ball Z, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (TMNT) and more. He then grew a passion with Japanese comic book drawing style and a desire to become a comic book artist. 

 

          Yu Hai moved to New York City in 2006 and later attended School of Visual Art in 2008 majoring in Computer Art. He received for his first time drawing class and was introduced to the 3D industry with Autodesk Maya. He quickly developped an interest into character modeling.

 

          In 2012, for his senior thesis, Yu Hai had to make a 3d short animation video. He decided to showcase his character modeling skills through the short. During the making, he learned to write a pitch story into a script, make a storyboard along with an animatic then previz. In addition, he uncovered new skills such as UV mapping/ layout, texturing, basic lighting with Vray and basic character rigging. You can watch the short here: U_u store

 

          Right now in 2013, Yu Hai is looking for opportunities to grow in the 3d industry in the animation/ gaming field. In the meantime he works as a courier delivering anything in New York City.
